Application: Level 70 - Elemental Shaman

Postby Exarch » Wed Oct 03, 2007 12:09 pm

Main character name: Exarch

Character class: Shamen

Character race: Draenei

Character level: 70

Character spec: Elemental (41/0/20)

Character tradeskill professions and levels: Alchemy (375) Herbalism (375)

Character heroic keys and attunements:
Reservoir Key (still farming rep for the others, slow going PUG'ing it)
Karazhan attuned.

High level non trainable spells/abilities learned: I really don't know what to put in here? I looked at some of the other apps and they've missed it out or put things that i wouldn't count as spells/abilities (enchantments?) so my apologies for drawing a blank on this one, i don't believe Shaman have any at 70, if i'm wrong i'll look such a fool, oh well, not the first time.

Total /played time: Game time 19 days/13 hours/29 mins (at time of check), RL time i've lost count, a LONG time, on and off over the years.

Played time at level 70: 2 days/15 hours/19 mins

Notable factions and their level:
Cenarion Expedition 291/21000 Revered
Honor Hold 8175/12000 Honored
Kurenai 7676/12000 Honored
Netherwing 0/3000 Neutral
The Consortium 788/6000 Friendly
Lower City 3865/12000 Honored
Sha'tari Skyguard 250/3000 Neutral
The Scryers 1910/3000 Neutral
The Sha'tar 3652/6000 Friendly
Keepers of Time 7034/12000 Honored
The Scale of the Sands 0/3000 Neutral
The Violet Eye 2795/6000 Friendly

Armory link (or CTprofile if you wish to show different gear) - http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Turalyon&n=Exarch

Previous guild(s):
Exarch - Exodus only.
Gromril - Monkey Magic (till disband, then joined Exodus). I raided often when in Monkey Magic before their disband but we only ever got to ZG/MC/AQ20 before TBC started, BWL was just out of reach, then forgotten after TBC hit, which was a shame.

Name, class and level of Alternate character(s):
Gromril (Turylon), 64 Prot Warrior
Voltaire (Turylon), 20 Affliction Warlock
Exarch (Horde), Server - Dragonblight, 55 Resto Shaman.
Some smaller level chars on Turylon which i play with for fun with my better half, not really worth a mention (my chars, not my better half!)

Reasons why you would like to join:
First and foremost i'm after a guild with a mature attitude that i can have fun and a laugh in while playing a game i enjoy.

On a character level, i'm looking to progress my character (which cannot be done alone), both itemisation wise and experience wise, i've played WoW for quite a long time over various characters and like to know the ins and outs of the characters that i play and play alongside (now just concentrating on one - Exarch)

There is so much still to see and learn in TBC, which i'm doing slowly (but surely) currently solo and with PUG's, but it can be highly frustrating at times as i'm sure you can imagine.

The guild i'm currently in, no disrespect to them they are a nice group of people and know some of them well in RL, but they are not organised enough to work as a team, they are just too casual for me (no TS, not enough use of GEM, or other organisation tools) Hence i'm looking for an organised guild that is more focused on progression which suits my play style and time.

On the itemisation side i'm running instances as much as I possibly can to get my equipment to a decent level, which i think i've not done too badly for the standard 5 mans, my next goal is the heroics (grinding rep like it's going out of fashion) and on from there. Ultimately i wish to see more end game content which i never managed pre TBC.

As for why i'm applying to AGPG, i've seen your members around for a long time, you have a good reputation and I have grouped with some of your members while PUG'ing (and from what i remember was generally good experiences all round).

My availablity is generally good, am on most nights (around RL commitments, college 2 nights a week and the misses "quality time" nights), if asked to raid then (checking your raiding days in the recruitment "read first" post) i'm currently not available on Tuesdays (it's one of my college nights) all other nights are free unless instructed otherwise under pain of (RL) death.

Were all of the above characters levelled by you from the start?: Yes, without question.

Your real age: 29

Extras: My name is James, i'm from the UK (aldershot) and work in IT.

Thank you for taking the time to read my application (if you didn't fall asleep half way through), if you have any questions i'll be happy to answer them. (either by PM, in-game mail/convo or on here)

Exarch.

nice application..

may i ask though, your playtime is rather "short" .. therefore i am asuming that you came to WoW rather late in the day.

how long have your been playing WoW and have you tried it, left, and then returned ?

just curious that is all.. as personaly i have racked up around 20 days platime on a level 39 alt.. so for < 20 days on a level 70.. seem's rather short.

hmm true.. but am on about the "overall" amount of time that he has been playing wow for... 6 months.. 12 months.. 2 years etc..

just seem's for his 1st level 70 character that seem's quite a short period of time.. therefore how long have you been playing the game for..

not that it has any major impact on your application.. am just curious that is all... meh.. am noisey by nature ^^

9 days 23h to 70 here 8) and just over 25 days /played so far <3

Nice application, sensible talents and gear choices.

Just wondering how come you didn't take LW as a profession for the UBER Netherstrike dragonscale set, perhaps you did not envisage being Elemental at 70 I don't know?

I read the "Total /played time:" as for Exarch only, if your asking about my overall WoW time, then i've played for on/off 2 years, i think just pre Battlegrounds patch 1.4. My very very first character was a Horde Warlock (that i still have!) still at lvl 22 on the Dragonblight server.

I did take a break from the game after him, for about 6/8 months to play Eve Online then came back to WoW as a number of small chars during that time (i've played almost every class except Hunter and Paladin to at least lvl 20, then started and concentrated on Gromril (/Played 25 days and still only 64) who i raided with. (just before Grom i had a lvl 46 rogue which i deleted because i didn't like his name! (Inyx) )

If your asking about Exarch's low playtime, i started him about March this year (i didn't want to jump on the Blood Elf/Draenei bandwagon too early) which i did jointly with my partner (a Draenei mage), a few hours everynight, to get to 60 about 13 days played time, then i raced to 70 leaving my partner at 60, really blitzing up but also did BG's and idled at times so actually my playtime on Exarch is quite high (for me), i got Gromril to 60 in 6 days 23 hours played time and that was concentrated leveling whenever i was on.

So i can powerlevel (and i don't mean grind either) my characters quite well when really gunning for it, and i have a VERY understanding partner! :o

Coming from a fellow Elemental Shamen, I thank you.

Funny you mention LW. I originally started Exarch as Enhancement, about lvl 23ish i respecced to Elemental, with the intention to spec resto when i hit 70, however i really enjoyed Elemental so much i decided to stick with it and by the time i discovered the Netherstrike set i was already high in Herb so didn't want to change till i maxxed Alchemy.

However, i buy more and more reagents off the AH than farming them so leveling LW is probably more useful now to get that set. - I've just got to make that decision to unlearn Herb. But as with all things it costs gold (to level LW) and i am saving for my flying epic mount, 5k ouch!

Do you think i should go for LW over the epic mount? I think the Netherstrike set will benefit me more in the short term.

Personally I think the Netherstrike set is of far more benefit than an epic flyer. I don't have an epic flyer myself and don't think I'll likely get one with the cost of regular raiding.

On the point of Netherstrike, the materials are quite a grind to get, especially all that primal air! Nerf Air Elementals being immune to lightning  not to mention the nethers ! Levelling up leatherworking will either take an investment of time or substantial cash as the cost of non-outland leathers is now stupid & don't get me started on Clefthoof leather that I farmed for days for the last 10 points!

The fact that the next upgrade from Netherstrike does not come until The Black Temple I beleive makes it's a very worthwhile investment and one that pays dividends. I would not use the T4 chest item in favour of Netherstrike.

Whilst some could argue that using cloth or leather items in the Waist, Chest & Belt slots can be equivalent you will really struggle to get anywhere near the Mp/5 that the set gives and as I'm sure you know or will come to soon, without a shadowpriest at your side, mana will become a problem without a hefty chunk of Mp/5.

On the subject of leatherworking, once at 365 you can make yourself the BoP Hurricane boots if you get the pattern. In my opinion the best Elemental shaman boots there are bar none.

I have mumbled on far too much and could mumble on further about spell dmg vs crit and so forth but now isn't the time. :D

I think your right, and 5k is certainly a long long way off anyway, so my time may well be better spent leveling up LW, though i'm sure there will be substantial cost in that also. I've not checked the AH recently for non-outland mats and it wouldn't surprise me to see the prices, i boggled at mageweave selling for 3/4G when it used to be about 1G a stack! (sold a stash i had and made a mint!) I think they money aspect is going to be my stumbling block as i really don't want to give up alchemy, it's much more cost effective to buy the mats and the pots/flasks/elixirs needed for raiding.

I'm with you on the elemental joke that is grinding as shaman for primals, talk about the short straw!

Only heard on the WoW forums, atm Pots are my friend and i stay mana'd up "just" enough on some boss fights. Usually because if i go all out i'll pull agro so have to hold back a little (depends on the Tank).

I'd love to have that discussion with you too (especially with the upcomming changes), but as you say now isn't the time.

We liked your application but unfortunately we can't offer you a caster DPS spot at the moment.

Hope you find luck in your adventures around Azeroth.
