Neliel - Resto Shaman application

Postby Neliel » Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:40 pm

1 - What is the name of your character?

Neliel

2 - Has your character always had this name? If not, explain why.

Yes always.

3 - What is your character's class?

Shaman

4 - What is your total time played with this character and what is your time played with this character at your current level?

Total playtime = 8days and 18hours
Time spent @ 80 = 2days and 10hours

5 - Do you want to apply for a raiding spot or a social spot?

A Raiding Spot ideally.

6 - What is your character's primary talent spec? (in numbers, example 2/48/11) Why did you choose this spec?

Restoration – 00/14/57 (considering dropping 2 from resto, into enhancement for extra spellpower on earthliving weapon)

It has taken me almost a dozen attempts to level a shaman, always with the intention of going resto, but always levelling enhancement. I had “issues” managing all my totems at lower levels, that put me off the class for a very long time…. until I found one mod, that saved my sanity (TotemTimer) I’m a chronic keybinder at heart, and not being able to comfortably access all the useful totems wound me up.
Upon reaching 80 however, I’m enjoying the class immensely, and want to further my experience with her as my healer. Paladin healing at 70 was fun, but now I’ve experienced the Shaman, I feel I have lots more tools to use, rather than powerhousing through content with Flash of Light.

7 - What kind of experience do you have with other talent specs on this character?

Currently I have only experienced Enhancement, for the purpose of levelling up fast. (see above played time) I am interested in trying Elemental at some point, but not necessarily for raiding unless required. It being one of the few class/specs combinations I’ve never tried. I imagine Elemental would be the 2nd spec I would choose in 3.1 with the addition of Dual-Specs.

8 - Please link your armorypage url (with your primary item kit if possible)

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet ... n&n=Neliel

9 - Why do you use this item kit?

I use this kit in the majority of fights, due to its balanced nature for mana regen, and healing throughput. I have access to a couple of other pieces of gear, which focus on different styles of play. (More mp5, more haste etc) However, in the content I have seen thus far, there has been little to no need to change gear to successfully fill my role within a group. I fully understand however, the need for these “options” for certain fights, especially in higher end/progressive content, and will always strive to obtain these alternate gear sets where applicable.

10 - Which of the items you use have the highest priority to be replaced and with what?

Of the gear I am wearing atm, I would say the 2 weakest links are the Helm and Alchemy trinket. Both being Blue, they obviously have a lower itemisation budget. The Helm is also missing a meta slot, which would be a nice upgrade. I do not consider either to be a bad selection though, and have managed thus far, without ever thinking, that one more upgrade would have made the difference between a wipe or not.
To me, upgrades in gear are there to make my job easier, and I find it hard to see that one or two lower level items would ever cause a wipe. An entire set of gear however, obviously might… ;)

I’d probably replace the helm with the Tier7 helm if possible. It would allow me access to a meta gem then, not to mention the badass looks J. I’m hoping that they bring in upgrades to the alchemy trinkets again soon, so I can upgrade that, keeping the useful potion effect. Very useful these days, since our potion usage is limited. Better to make the most use of that one potion.

11 - Do you have any other items/kits that might be useful?

I have a semi decent set of Enhancement gear, gained purely on off spec rolls from heroics, and as mentioned above some select pieces of resto gear to switch in and out as the fight/group requires. I currently don’t have a mail Frost resistance set, but having done Sapphiron a few times, don’t believe it to be necessary there. Similar to The Curator fight, and Arcane res in Karazhan. I would of course acquire resistance sets, where necessary. Thinking perhaps Ulduar…

12 - What kind of guild do you think AG Praetorian Guard is?

I believe AGPG to be a guild with lots of close members, a guild who are progressing and completing the content available at a decent pace, whilst maintaining the mantra of home life first. I believe, in this, that you are succeeding. Which is no easy task. Over the past few months I have been in AGPG only heroic runs, bar myself, and have in each case enjoyed the experience, I was also part of some of the Nostalgia raids that took place before WotLK, for achievements, on my Druid. It was quite clear that there was a lot of good organisation going on, and fun and fair play too.

13 - Describe the role of your class/spec in raids and its mechanics. Be as precise as you can. Show us you know your class inside-out. (example: spell damage coefficients, need of particular stats or attributes)

First and foremost, it may be clear (/played above) that I have not been playing this class long. Please don’t jump to conclusions that I am inexperienced. My shaman is the 9th class that I have played over level 70, and my now 3rd level 80. I have raid healed, tanked and dps’d at 60, 70 and 80. I take pride in acquainting myself with as many classes and specs as I can.

I am always reading forums for changes, and ideas into the various classes, and try to keep as informed as possible. In the short time I’ve been playing a resto Shaman, I have learnt the following.
In a raid, our primary role is to keep people alive. We are especially adept at raid healing, with the, oh so awesome Chain Heal. Even more so now that both Wild Growth and CoH have been given cooldowns. We aren’t the best single target healers, but with some decent gear setups, and glyph choices, we can do a decent job at this also.

Other than that, our other boon is buffing the raid. Heroism, very useful for most boss fights currently available. There always seems to be some enrage timer / nuke phase / oh shit moment, when Heroism can really help the group survive and defeat the encounter.

Totems are obviously very useful, and the crux of our class. Although in a 25man, a lot of the more powerful ones like Strength of Earth and Windfury can be provided by other classes. Mana spring is obviously very useful, especially as multiples will stack. In short, the sheer number of different bonuses from all the totems allows our class to flex to whatever the current fight will require. Resistance fights, Longevity fights, Cleansing fights, we have a totem for most occasions.

14 - How do you prepare for raids?

I try and prepare for raids well in advance, by always having a stock of reagents/relevant flasks and buff food ready at all times. This stash will get replenished, straight after a raid in most cases, so I don’t have to worry about being prepared before the next raid. My account is fairly self-sufficient also, with my other characters having a range of professions. I can provide for myself, all the above with minimal effort or AH gold spending.
I also try and read up or view a new boss, before we visit, for that added insight into what I’ll be required to take note of during the groups initial set of attempts.

15 - What is your raiding experience in Azeroth, Outland and Northrend?

Azeroth – I was part of a semi casual guild, on a Horde PvP server. We had cleared MC, ZG and AQ20. Never got much further unfortunately. Played mostly as a Survival Hunter and Demo Lock, and occasionally healed on a Holy Priest.

Outland – Just after hitting 70 on my Feral druid, I was convinced by one of your current members (Vaiuri – a RL friend, whom I’ve worked with) to switch servers to help their guild progress in Karazhan, The Esoteric Church of Dagon, and my current guild still. I rerolled onto Turalyon completely to achieve this. Due to the hard transition to 25mans from a 10man group, we only ventured into 25man content near the end of TBC, due to a guild alliance that was setup. As experience goes, I have cleared Karazhan as all class roles, and have killed Gruul and Magtheridon on my Hunter and Paladin.

Northrend – Currently in WotLK I have cleared 10man Naxx on both my Paladin and Druid, and a fair chunk on my Shaman. We also did our 1st Sarth +1drake last night. We have started progress on Malygos 10man recently, and are working on improving phases 1 and 2, and require some more practice at phase 3. Due to the guild not really needing any more healers, my shaman has taken part in some 25man pugs instead. I’ve cleared 4 quarters of Naxx on her, (barring Thaddius – do many dps couldn’t jump…) and also Sartharion. Just this week comfortably completed a 20man Sartharion for the achievement.

16 - Why do you want to get into AG Praetorian Guard?

I would like to join AG Praetorian Guard, for the chance to get stuck into the 25man mentality, and progress at a decent rate. I’d like the opportunity to get stuck into a class that I’m enjoying more than I ever thought I would, and obtain a reason to stick to a main raiding character.

Having missed out on a tonne of content throughout WoW’s history due to organisational issues, I feel it’s time I was able to experience this content. As mentioned in question 12, I’ve always enjoyed grouping up with AGPG members, and have heard good things about the guilds general camaraderie.

17 - Why would we want you in AG Praetorian Guard?

As I know, you are not officially recruiting atm, which leaves the obvious answer closed ;)
Why you would want me in your guild, well I’m the kind of player who picks things up fast. I (almost obsessively) strive to play each of my characters to the fullest of their ability. I work well in a team in most cases, be it listening to tactics, following “orders” or even projecting ideas as to improve what we are currently attempting. I have a vast knowledge of the games mechanics, and understand all roles within a raid.

I frequently use places like forums, and am happy to add in banter with other guild members in raid/guild chat. (once I get to know folks that is, wouldn’t want to offend anyone too soon) I know your guild is a friendly place to be, with lots of like-minded folks with which to chat, discuss things with, and have a general good time. That’s what we’re all playing for right ;)
I would hope my dry, sarcastic sense of humour would fit in nicely with the guild.

18 - On which days of the week are you able to attend raids?

I’m online most days of the week. Some days I would find easier to raid than others, due to RL commitments and trips out to the pub… I reckon most of you can understand that ;)

Generally, I would say that Mondays, Tuesdays and sometimes Wednesdays would cause the most conflictions.

19 - We use TeamSpeak during our raids. Are you familiar with TS or Ventrillo and do you actually use it? (Talking as well as listening)

I am familiar with both TS and Ventrillo. I am currently using Vent though, over TS. I do tend to be a little quiet on the microphone, mainly due to the lack of one for so long, and am wont to type things instead. Old habits die hard. However, I am not averse to speaking over the Mic, and would do so as and when necessary. I would lean away from speaking as the evening wears on, due to family sleeping and such, and wanting to keep the noise down.

20 - Which other guilds have you been in in the past? (please name them all)

On this server, I have only been a part of The Esoteric Church of Dagon. (as mentioned above) The guilds I was a part of on Horde side (The Maelstrom) are of little concern really, and were with an entire different set of characters. They were almost 2 years ago, and in most cases I doubt they are still going. With the exception of one called Sanctum, who are now number 1 on their server. (Or at least were during TBC)

21 - What are your alternate characters? (please add class, spec and level)

Well this list could get quite long ;)

Currently at 80, alongside my Shaman, I have a Feral Tank, and Retribution Paladin. Ulquiorra and Grimmjow respectively.
I also have, a 73 Fire Mage, called Halibel.
The others as follows, in short;

70 Shadow Priest – Soifon
70 Combat Rogue – Renji
70 Beastmaster Hunter – Hirako
70 Protection Warrior – Yammi
58 Blood Death Knight – Orihime
30 Affliction Warlock - Luppi

22 - Which of your alts would you be willing to make your main in AG Praetorian Guard, in case we can only offer that particular class/spec a raiding spot and not the one your applying with? Also mention if you are willing to respec yes or no and with which character.

This is a hard question for me to answer given the number of choices. In honesty, I enjoy all my characters, and very rarely change spec, aside from changing at max level, after having a spec for levelling. I’ve tended to roll a different class to fill a role, rather than respec a class, and have tried to spread their specs into all 4 roles. I’d probably say I wouldn’t move my Druid or Paladin, mainly for social reasons. I do intend to level up most of the others eventually though. The mage is underway as you can see ;)

23 - Did you level all your characters from the start yourself?

I did, and am becoming increasingly good at it ;)

24 - What is your real life age?

I have recently turned 25.

25 - OPTIONAL; Any other info you want to share with us concerning your application or yourself?

I would proffer some additional information, but reading back over my post I’d say I’ve covered a fair bit of background information throughout the questions.

As briefly mentioned, I do know Vic very well, from RL, and it is her who helped me decide to apply. I have been playing WoW since February 05, Initially Alliance on the Zenedar server, for the first few months. I rerolled Horde side on The Maelstrom for a large chunk of time, before rerolling yet again, onto Turalyon. It is here that I intend to stay, as long as I’m playing WoW.

A little bit about myself, despite the above list of characters, I do do other things. I like to read a lot, and am currently reading the 6th novel in a series by Steven Erikson. An awesome set of fantasy novels, extremely well written. I am also fond of watching DVD’s and Miniseries. Currently, I have borrowed the Battlestar Galactica series, and am enjoying that immensely. Just started season 4, so no spoilers please. :P

To anyone else familiar with the Japanese Anime “Bleach” my character names will make it obvious that I am a fan of that show also ;)

Game wise, I’m working my way through GTA IV on the PC, and Fable 2 on Xbox 360, and can often be seen rockin’ on Guitar Hero (curtains closed ofc)

I’m well aware that the above application is very long, so if you read it all, thankyou for your time J

I’m happy to answer any and all questions you might have, be it about myself, or my characters. Looking forward to your replies

Greg.

Well written application. I bet it took you some time (I know mine did, and I think it was shorter then yours), which means you weren't afraid to spent some time on it.

Thumbs up from me, I wish you good luck!

Greg is actually a very monest person

Glad you finally go tthis app up here Greg :) It would be great to have you in the guild - I know you'd do well here and show that slacker Becc a thing or two about Shaman healing  <love u Becc>

Personal notes aside, I can only add my whole-hearted support to this app - Greg is a brilliant player and would be a valuable asset to our raiding team as we move on into Ulduar.

Good Luck Greg, hope to see you join us soon!
